Celtic Stencils

Celtic stencils have been popular for thousands of years.  All of the ancient tribes of Ireland used tattooing to define their groups. The intricate patterns represented many things in their society from marking wedding dates to remembering past dead. As a people, the Irish currently have a strong tattooing culture which often tends toward political and religious tattooing.

The Celtic stencils you will find here are simplified version of the intricate knotwork of the originals. Often these overly detailed outlines are made into tattoos that are entirely too small. The resulting tattoo will appear smudged and cloudy and the detailed knotwork will be lost. A way to solve this is to keep the outline clean and not unduly detailed.
